Engineering Limitations & Chemical Fitness Warnings

Extracted directly from Brady Technical Data Sheets to prevent real-world application failures and chemical degradation:

  • Labelstock recommendation (Description section): "This ribbon is recommended for printing on glossy or very smooth labelstocks."
  • Performance characteristics are out of scope for this sheet. The Description directs the reader to the appropriate product Technical Data Sheet for specific ribbon and label performance characteristics. The solvent resistance, scratch resistance and heat resistance advantages are stated only as applying when the ribbon is printed on the appropriate Brady label; no test values are given on this sheet.
  • Agency approvals are per material and ribbon combination, not blanket. The sheet states the ribbon is UL Recognized and/or CSA Accepted on various Brady labelstocks, and directs the reader to UL file MH17154 and MH10939 and CSA Acceptance Record LS41833 for specific material and ribbon approvals. No individual labelstock is named on this sheet.
  • Halogen free is claimed against three named standards: the IEC 61249-2-21 standard, stated on the sheet as requiring a maximum of 900 PPM Cl, 900 PPM Br and 1500PPM total halogens; the JPCA-ES-01-1999 standard, stated as <900 PPM Br and <900 PPM Cl; and the IPC-4101B definition of halogen free, stated as a maximum of 900 PPM Cl, 900 PPM Br and 1500PPM total halogens.
  • Scope limit on the halogen free claim. A note closing that same paragraph reads: "Note: Fluorine, Iodine and Astatine (Other Group VIIA Halogens) are not restricted in the industry definition of Halogen Free." It sits immediately after the three standards above and qualifies the halogen free claim as a whole.
  • The REGULATORY APPROVALS section states no compliance status. It only directs the reader to regional websites for the Weee-RoHS compliance status of a Brady product: Canada www.bradycanada.ca/weee-rohs, Europe www.bradyeurope.com/rohs, Japan www.brady.co.jp/products/labelsuse/rohs, all other regions www.bradyid.com/weee-rohs.
  • Environmental exposure. An unlabeled sentence in its own paragraph directly below the Details list (the last Details row above it is Usage Condition) reads: "Exposure to direct sunlight, high temperature and high humidity should be avoided." It carries no row label, so it is recorded here as written rather than attributed to any single Details row.
  • Shelf life is conditional on storage. The two year figure applies only to product stored in its original packaging below 80° F (27° C) and 60% RH. The sheet adds that it remains the responsibility of the user to assess the risk of using this product, and encourages customers to develop testing protocols that will qualify a product's fitness for use in their actual application.
  • Data quality note near the foot of the sheet: "All values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes."
  • Test data disclaimer. The sheet states that test data and test results in the document are for general information only, are not to be relied upon by Brady customers for designs and specifications, and are not to be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria; customers wanting to develop specifications or performance criteria for specific product applications are told to contact Brady.
  • Compliance data provenance. The sheet states product compliance information comes from raw material suppliers or from third party independent laboratory testing, and that Brady makes no independent representations or warranties, express or implied, and assumes no liability in connection with the use of that information.
  • Warranty limits (WARRANTY section). Products are sold on the understanding that buyers will test them in actual use and determine adaptability to their intended uses for themselves. Brady warrants products free from defects in material and workmanship but limits its obligation to replacement of product shown to Brady's satisfaction to have been defective when sold. The warranty does not extend to any persons obtaining the product from the buyers, is in lieu of any other warranty including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and excludes liability for loss, damage, expense or consequential damages arising from use or inability to use the product.
