Brady B-499A: Thermal Transfer / Dot Matrix Printable Nylon Cloth Label

B-499A is a polyamide coated nylon cloth label with a permanent acrylic adhesive, printable with thermal transfer or dot matrix ribbons, intended for wiremarking and general labeling. The sheet states plainly that B-499A is not recommended for outdoor use, and a footnote on the weatherability row adds that it is not recommended for long-term outdoor use — after 30 days in a Xenon Arc Weatherometer the material wrinkled and embrittled. UL recognition and CSA acceptance apply only when the label is printed with specific named ribbons, so the ribbon a customer uses determines whether the approval applies.

Standardized dip and rub immersion test observations across industrial fuels, oils, solvents, and cleaners.

"Samples printed with the Brady Series R5000 ribbon. Samples wrapped around a 12 AWG, TFE jacketed wire and allowed to dwell 24 hours prior to test. Test was conducted at room temperature except where noted. Testing consisted of 5 cycles of 10 minute immersions in the specified test fluid followed by a 30 minute recovery period. After final immersion, samples rubbed 10 times with cotton swab saturated with test fluid."
